30th Sunday in Ordinary time
Mark 10:46-52

How blessed is Bartimaeus the beggar! In today's Gospel, Jesus Himself asked him what he wanted. And, citing the beggar's faith as the cause, Jesus gave him what he asked for.

This is an example of not letting a rare opportunity slip from you. Bartimaeus sat by the roadside begging when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. He shouted, called on Jesus, asked for mercy. And amid the rebukes of people who saw him shouting, he did not stop but "shouted all the more".

If we apply this to our time, I think it should now be a bit easier. We don't have to wait for God to pass by for He is always with us. We do not need to search far for Him because He is in our hearts. What's left to do is to call on Him. Speak to Him. Have faith and go tell Him the longings of your heart. Shout if you must. And shout all the more when the devil rebukes you.

Like Bartimaeus, don't miss the opportunity to make your plea for mercy. The opportunity is every single day the Lord adds to our life. He waits for you. For those who have spiritual blindness, echo the blind beggar's request, tell the Lord Jesus that you want to see.

Speak with faith.
