Luke 6:12-16
I've heard it said before, "Pray before you act". And this is what Jesus did in today's Gospel---before that momentous choosing of the twelve apostles from his many disciples, Jesus "went out into the hills to pray." In fact, he "spent the whole night praying to God."
Like in Jesus's life, there are such moments on our lives when decisions to be made at present have such an impact into the course of our future. When these times come, let us imitate what our Lord did Who sought the guidance of the Father Who sees the tomorrow we cannot see.
How Jesus trusted the Father!
I remember one occasion when I had a decision making dilemma-- I did not know whether to do this or that. I talked to a friend who I knew had such zeal for souls, including mine. He gave me advice and then I said, "I'll think about it." He rebuked me and said,
"Don't think about it, pray about it. Because, when you just think about it, you depend on your own understanding. But when you pray about it, you depend on God's."
