Luke 9:28b-36
In this second Sunday of Lent, one of the priests in the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice here in UP Diliman, commented in his homily on how out of place today's Gospel may seem at first glance. He describes it as a "happy Gospel in the season of Lent", a time when we are supposedly in a sorrowful disposition.

What is today's Gospel? It is the transfiguration of Jesus. The account of Luke on the revealing of Jesus's true glory as He prayed on a mountain. In this event, Moses and Elijah appeared "in glorious splendor" to talk with Him.

Happy indeed. Father, in the latter part of his homily, explained that the Catholic Church had injected this Gospel to remind us that beyond the suffering and death of Jesus is His glorious Resurrection. We have the tendency, he said, to dwell too much on the sorrow of the season that we forget the joyful Easter afterwards.

These words of today's Gospel are so beautiful:

"This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him."

Words of the Father, testifying for His Son.

Again, listen to Him.
